DAY 13 - SHIRAKAWA-GO (UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE)
Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama
Located in a mountainous region that was cut off
from the rest of the world for a long period of time, these villages with their
Gassho-style houses subsisted on the cultivation of mulberry trees and the
rearing of silkworms. The large houses with their steeply pitched thatched
roofs are the only examples of their kind in Japan. Despite economic upheavals,
the villages of Ogimachi, Ainokura and Suganuma are outstanding examples of a
traditional way of life perfectly adapted to the environment and people's
social and economic circumstances.
DAY 14 - KYOTO (overnight)
Kiyomizudera (清水寺, literally "Pure Water Temple") is one of the most celebrated temples of Japan. It was founded in 780 on the site of the Otowa Waterfall in the wooded hills east of Kyoto, and derives its name from the fall's pure waters. The temple was originally associated with the Hosso sect, one of the oldest schools within Japanese Buddhism, but formed its own Kita Hosso sect in 1965. In 1994, the temple was added to the list of UNESCO world heritage sites.
DAY 15 - HOME SWEET HOME (BUT WE WILL BE BACK….)
